Feijoa, Lime + Apple Sparkling Wine
Tasting Notes
Clear dark golden-y green colour with very fine beads.
Smells like feijoa. Tastes like feijoa.
There's just no getting away from it! The lime has given it a nice acidic kick that lightens the feijoa load, it's nice and dry, but yep; it's feijoa all the way baby!
Winemaking Notes
Feijoa wine is probably the most common wine made in New Zealand by home winemakers, and our biggest fruit winery in Aotearoa specialises in feijoa wine (Lothlorien Winery).
So I haven't really wanted to dabble in it TBH, but, I have so many people ask if I do a feijoa wine, that I gave in - and here it is. As Requested
The feijoas came from a local orchard in Pahiatua, the limes from a friend in Palmerston North and the apples from our own home orchard here.
Mid May 2024 is when these fruity beauties came together into my fermenter, was a pretty simple affair, though I did peel most of the feijoas. Was a slow winter ferment, bottled in January 2025 before it had completely finished it's ferment so I could capture a little bit of sparkle. Released July 2025.
