Tasting Notes

Blackcurrant and olive wine is a lovely clear magenta colour.  Berries direct to the nasal passages with ripe plums and musky blackcurrants.

Nice tight acidity, silky mouth feel... this ain't Ribena kids, adult blackcurrants all the way, berries in a leather bag with a wooden clasp, nice long finish.

Relatively young for a red, definitely benefits from a decanting and/or allow to air for the flavours to develop.

Winemaking Notes

 I bet I've got you curious with the "+ Olive"... It's true, this wine is made from blackcurrants, black olives as well as black peppercorns and mint; couldn't fit all that on the label though! So Blackalicious it is.  The wine was inspired by a tasting review I read on a cool climate syrah.

Blackalicious was started in January 2023, fermenting on all of the above for eight days, then racked for a super swift ferment, done by February.  Bulk aged for 6 months, bottle aged for another 6 months.  Released February 2024.

This wine ages very well, consider cellaring some bottles for the next two to five years.
