Tomato Wine
Tasting Notes
Clear pale golden yellow colour (I know, gutting! Would've been so cool if it had stayed red) and smells like a freshly picked tomato; gardeners will know this smell, go pinch off some laterals if you don't!
It's a lot like feijoa wine in that you just can't get away from the fruit that it's made from; smells like tomato and tastes like tomato; juicy, almost grassy, and mouthwateringly acidic. Goes beautifully with Mediterranean dishes and cheese boards.
Winemaking Notes
The tomatoes were grown by an organic vege grower in Eketāhuna, harvested in 2024. They were fermented with star anise, cloves, peppercorns, dried thyme and dates, it smelt like a wonderful chutney!
After it's ferment it was aged with American oak and left to bulk age until bottling in September '24. It needed to be further aged for another 12-13 months until it tasted like a wine that could be rightly sold... So, it tastes good now, but I believe it will only get better with time; up to another 3-4 years.
This wine will not be made again (unless y'all scream for more) so get it while you can!
