Rhubarb + Ginger Fortified Wine

Tasting Notes

A light dusty pink fortified wine that smells like cold mossy forest air with a tinge of strawberry flavoured gasoline.  The first hit on taste is sweet rhubarb, followed by a hot kick of ginger riding on the vodkas back.  Has a lovely long warm finish that feels like a homecoming.

Have it neat, have it with ice, have it with soda water, have it with hot water.  This is one for all seasons..

Winemaking Notes

In late August 2023, we wrangled a mortgage for the house (Plum Tree Cottage) that we'd been renting for the previous six years.  To celebrate I made this wine with the one abundant fruit (vegetable actually) growing at that time; Rhubarb!

Made with ginger, fresh mint and a bottle of home preserved apple; it started its fermenting journey in September and gfinished as a sweet wine four months later.  Which just so happened to be perfectly timed with the vodka I had macerating with yet more rhubarb and ginger, for three months.  Blended, bottled, and then aged for 12 months... Homecoming came home, January 2025.

Being a fortified wine, this is best enjoyed as a wee sipper or as a component in a mixed drink.
