Rhuby Red Shoes ~ 2025
Rhuby Red Shoes ~ 2025
Rhubarb, Red Currant, Raspberry + Strawberry Wine
Wine Tasting Notes
Has an ever so slight haze (it will be pectin haze from the rhubarb and the fact that it's not filtered), a pretty pastel watermelon colour.
Smells like lemon-y rhubarb-y sherbet. It's a wee bit sweeter than 2024 vintage but still nicely balanced. You know, maybe it's the warmer weather, but drinking this wine is like gliding on a rhubarb leaf in a pink fruity tutu with berry candy floss clouds passing by... and that's where I'm going to leave these tasting notes!
Winemaking Notes
The rhubarb came from four different gardens in Tararua; the bulk from Plum Tree Cottage (our property) the rest from our neighbour and a couple of friends. The red currants all came from Plum Tree Cottage, the raspberries and strawberries I did have to get frozen, but all grown in New Zealand. The rhubarbs and the berries require a different process from each other to create the must so are prepared separately then put together after their first furious ferment. This all began in December 2025, completed in March 2026, back-sweetened a little then bottled in May 2026. Released Labour Weekend 2026.
